Lesson 07 drill — Past Continuous (background) + Past Simple (action)
Past Continuous (was/were + -ing) paints the longer background. Past Simple drops the short action that interrupts it. Connect them with WHEN (action interrupts background) or WHILE (two things happening at once). AS SOON AS = the second thing happens immediately after the first.
